Won

Oh, how I long for this kind of freedom. I sit at my desk, in my broken down crippled body, dreaming for this kind of action. The cosmic connection of being one with nature. Uuhhhh. Uuuggggghhh. I'm talking about the waves you asshole. Being one with the waves in the middle of nowhere with no other assholes around. Just me and my camera. Doing things.

Gotcha

As great a person I believe myself to be, I'm not really the greatest son or brother. I've spent the last 20+ years missing most family holidays and birthdays due to surfing, snowboarding, or traveling. So last weekend my brother and I played the good kids and surprised the old man while he as on vacation at the Oregon Coast. We had a little surprise party for him. We were a couple weeks early, but that's the best I could do since I'm the Fucking New Guy at work. With a little help from my step-mom, I flew from The Biggest Little City in the World to The Neck Beard Capital of America then we drove down to Lincoln City. He'll be 70 in a couple weeks. I think we got him good. And I'm off the hook for another 20 years.

Stop the insanity!!!!

No fist bumps in 2012....it's all high fives. That's been my platform for this entire year. I've slipped just a handful of times so far, and mostly to the same dude who kept mind warping and tricking me. I'm fucking sick of the FB. High fives are way better anyway. I'm hoping to throw many more high fives throughout the next few months.

The only acceptable fist bump....

short timer

Time for The World's Greatest Roommate to mosey on down the road. After living in my trailer for a couple months, I've been in my new home for less than 4 weeks. My shit is barely unpacked, I'm sleeping on a Coleman inflatable mattress, and I'm generally running a bit ragged. Today my roommate confirmed that he's accepting some killer job offer in Michigan and he's hitting the road at the end of the month. Super stoked for him, but dammit I'm back to scramble mode. Living in turmoil must be where I thrive because that's where I constantly find myself. Maybe I should get better roommates. Or maybe I should find a home base and buy something. Here's what I can remember off the top of my head...

Beholding Yosemite

I've never been much of a climber even though I've participated several times. All the knots, and gear, and fancy french words, and standing around in a sack pinching harness never really appealed to me. Way back in 2000, during the Pre 9/11 Era, I was planning a grand vacation to learn a new sport. It was either Thailand for climbing in Phuket or Costa Rica to really get this surfing thing down. I chose wisely and went off to Costa Rica and surfed my balls off for a month. The next year I spent 3 months down there and surfed my face off. But I've always been a fan of climbing for some reason. Not that I really want to do it...that's too much commitment to gear and stupid new shoes. But standing in front of El Capitan in Yosemite makes life's bullshit seem small compared to conquering a giant chunk of granite. Looking at dudes living on a wall for a few days and pooping into PVC pipes that they carry up with them is a massive amount of commitment. Good for them. Pretty rad to see.

Into the Thin Hot Zone

Today after work I'm heading to Yosemite National Park and see if I can catch me some Hantavirus. Gonna hike around with my good leg. Maybe even bike up and down some paths a little. But until then I'm grossing out the girls in the office by eating Top Ramen with a dab of peanut butter added. Try it=you'll love it.

regional classic don't miss it

Who puts new LED blinkers on his trailer, can stand on a surfboard, drives 10 hours to get surf, camps next to white trash, and spots awesome split window orange Volkswagens down long driveways? Me.
